Project ZEAL – Zero Emissions by Advanced cLeaning

“Minimising the environmental footprint of FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) companies by advanced cleaning”.

Eddie Owen, GSK

Project Zeal is a 4 year, £3.6m, UK Technology Strategy Board (TSB) co-funded project comprising 11 partners from manufacturing, supply and academia.

The vision of the ZEAL project, is to reduce the environmental impact of cleaning by looking at areas such as design for cleaning, instrumentation, new cleaning products, cleaning assurance & knowledge transfer.

The desired outcomes were expected to be models for cleaning which could be used to aid in equipment design, measurement and control methodologies to enable feedback control of the cleaning process and a demonstrated reduction of effluent at pilot or plant scale.

Project Zeal Partners
GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), Unilever HPC, Heineken, Cadbury, Bruker Optics, AlfaLaval, GEA, Ecolab, Schools of Chemical Engineering at Birmingham, Imperial College London, Newcastle University.
