The buildings which now comprise the University of Greenwich at Medway were an Edwardian Royal Naval Barracks, constructed between 1897 and 1903 as HMS Pembroke. The site composes of grand listed buildings, including the Pembroke building.

On Foot:
The walk from Gillingham Station to campus via Johnson Avenue is just over one mile and takes around 20 minutes.  The walk from Chatham town centre along Dock Road is longer and includes a hill.
By Bike:
Medway Council has produced a cycle route map for the area. If you are bringing your bike on the train the route from Gillingham is more cycle friendly and includes a cycle route. Cycle parking facilities are provided on campus, a mixed of covered and uncovered, including a gated compound. Showers and lockers are provided in Nelson Building and the Sports Hall.
Please remember cycling is not permitted through the Medway Tunnel.

By Rail
Chatham train station is the most accessible station for the campus and has regular services from Charing Cross, Waterloo East, London Bridge, Cannon Street, London Victoria, Ramsgate and Dover. Call 08457 484950 for train times and further information. There are various bus stops and a taxi rank outside Chatham train station. A taxi to the campus from the station will take approximately 10 minutes or see local bus information below.
A high speed service is available from London St Pancras to Chatham, which takes approx 40 minutes.
London Victoria to Chatham Journey time approx 55 minutes.
Dover – direct trains from Dover Priory to Chatham every
half hour on weekdays. Journey time approx 70 minutes.
Ramsgate – direct trains from Ramsgate to Chatham every half hour on weekdays. Journey time approx 70 minutes.

From France and Belgium: Take the Eurostar to Ebbsfleet International, then connecting train to Chatham.

By Road
From London, the North and East Anglia (via M25 clockwise) and from the West and South-West (via M25 anticlockwise): Leave M25 at junction 2 signposted A2 Canterbury, where the A2 becomes the M2 at junction 1 leave the motorway and continue on the A2 signposted Gillingham.  Follow the brown anchor signs for the Historic Dockyard and Chatham Maritime via the A289 and the Medway Tunnel. Take  the first exit directly after emerging from the tunnel, turn right at  the end of slip road, leading up Maritime Way towards Chatham.  The campus entrance is the first exit at the next roundabout, signposted Pembroke and Universities at Medway.  From the South-East: Leave M2 at junction 4 signposted Gillingham. Follow the brown anchor signs for the Historic Dockyard and Chatham Maritime via the A278, A2 and A289.  Take the last exit just before the Medway Tunnel, signposted Chatham and Historic Dockyard. At the end of the slip road, turn left up Maritime Way towards Chatham. The campus entrance is the first exit at the next roundabout, signposted Pembroke and Universities at Medway.

By Air
London Heathrow: Go to www.baa.co.uk for flight information.  Take the underground to London Victoria railway station, then the mainline train from Victoria to Chatham station.
London Gatwick: Go to www.gatwickairport.com for flight information.  Take the Gatwick Express to London Victoria railway station, then the mainline train from Victoria to Chatham station.

By Bus
Arriva bus service 116 runs to and from Hempstead Valley – Gillingham – Universities at Medway – Chatham. This bus service allows you to travel directly onto the University campus. It also stops at Chatham bus station (which is only a short walk from Chatham and Gillingham train stations) and Hempstead Valley Shopping Centre where the National Express coach service stops. This service runs every 20 minutes.
Arriva buses 100, 140 and 141 also leave frequently from the bus stops outside Chatham train station and take approximately 15 minutes to get to the bus stop on Dock Road outside the campus entrance. This is known as the Chatham Maritime stop or the Compass Centre stop.
